James was affliated with the Presbyterian church of Rural Valley, PA. He took care of his parents in their elder years and remained on the family farm until his mother's death. He then at the age of thirty two, was ordained as a minister. He preached for some years at Leechburg, PA. His death occurred at Poland, Ohio in 1875. ²³
